Take a scenic, hour and a half long drive along the Cape Whale Coast from Cape Town, and you will discover Stanford Hills Estate, which is fast becoming one of the area’s most popular attractions. This magnificent family owned boutique wine estate has a little bit of everything to offer lovers of the great outdoors. The talented Stanford Hills team share a passion for the wholesome gifts that nature has to offer us and strive to share this philosophy with visitors to the Estate.
Stanford Hills Estate still boasts the immaculately preserved Manor House that along with two refurbished labourers’ cottages serve as self-catering accommodation. In addition there are five luxury “glamping” tents where guests can enjoy the great outdoors while still experiencing life’s luxuries.
The Tasting Room restaurant has a reputation for laid back fun, with the emphasis on fresh and inventive food of an exceptionally high standard. The chalkboard menu changes daily according to what is locally fresh and available, including items from our own vegetable garden.
Stanford Hills has also become known for bringing some of South Africa’s greatest musical talent to the Overberg area, including Louise Carver, Ard Matthews, Watershed and Arno Carstens.
Wine tasting is offered at the Wine Shop or at The Tasting Room, both of which are open seven days a week from 8.30-5.00 pm.
The farm also produces Proteas and Pincushions, which are endemic to South Africa, so from August through November the farm is filled with these colourful blooms.
The farm offers horse-riding, hiking and even whale-watching by air in a small airplane which takes off from the farm’s private landing strip. You can also have a swim in a farm dam, try your hand at fishing, or simply lie in bed and listen to the birds.
The Klein River Mountains overlook the charming village of Stanford. It is famous for its’ award winning eateries and has an eclectic mix of art galleries, breweries and wine farms. Stanford is in close proximity to Hermanus, considered as one best whale watching destinations in the world and a treat for adventurous types, as there are mountain bike trails, horse riding, shark cage diving and boat cruises, all within the area.
